Thursday Feb. 9th
Students were shown the new Words of the Week and those who are presenting next week's went to the library for 15 minutes to get started. Students whose binders were still in disarray worked on putting their binders in order and then moved on to finishing the 2 goddesses questions. There are still a few of them missing. A few students are still working on the plot line and those who were finished moved to starting their first page of their story in graphic text form.

Tuesday Feb. 7th
Students had a choice of reading or working on their Superhero. Most chose to continue with their superhero. Students need to have finished their drawing/tracing as well as put their character on a mini-poster with a title, colour and a superpower. Also, each student needs to have written a paragraph describing the superhero. Lastly, Students need to have filled in the plot line diagram for the stories they intend to tell. (See Handout).

Monday Feb. 6th
We started by reading for 15 minutes and doing a reading response called Reading Response #2 Connections. Students are to write a response which explains what he/she connected with or about when reading. It can be a web, a memory or a movie just to name a few.
Basically, this reading reminds me of...
Then we did a binder check. Many students did not bring a binder or have a binder ready for the binder check. Tomorrow is the last chance for Binder Check #1. Remember there is a binder at the front of the classroom which shows what handouts have been given and where each goes. USE IT as your guide.
Next, we worked on tracing our characters from the template onto a small paper and including a title and our superhero's superpower.
Also, students were to write a brief paragraph which explains their character's background. See Handouts.

Friday Feb. 3
Students watched "The Hockey Sweater" yesterday and then we did a quick handout on examples of the terms from Wednesday we could find in the film. See Handouts and watch the film.
Today we first read for only 12 minutes (We had a guest coming) , reviewed "The Hockey Sweater" handout and organized our binders. So many binders are in disarray that I feel it necessary to do a binder check and mark next week. There will be a sample at the front of the room to compare if you're missing any material.
Our Guest arrived and gave us a quick lesson on drawing superheroes. We planned our superheroes (See Handout) and Ms. Hinton gave us templates to begin drawing our superheroes. We will continue this process on Monday.

Students read for the first 15 minutes then we were introduced to the 3 words of the week. Thank you Felicia, Tenesha and Bam for our new words. I look forward to using them.
We then did a quick exercise on run on sentences. If you were missing, you need to get this handout from me and do the first page front and back. We will be finishing it up tomorrow.
Students had time to finish yesterday's "Two Kinds of Justice" which is due tomorrow. Please remember to write in FULL SENTENCES and use the vocabulary words with enough detail to show you know what each means.
To end, the students chose one of the graphic novels to be using this week and next during our short story study.

Prognosticate: Do you want to continue to read it?
We then read "Two Kinds of Justice" and began the questions. Students will have 20 minutes tomorrow to finish these if they need the time.

Friday Jan. 27th
Students looked at the rubric for their Word of the Week posters and sticky noted one positive or negative for CONTENT on each of the samples.
We then read for 20 minutes except for the 3 people working on Word of the Week for next week.
The last part of the class was spent discussing how you would get justice in this scenario:
You have just bought a new iPhone with money you saved and a grade 10 student accidentally knocks your phone to the ground and breaks it. What would you consider asking for to get justice?
